Block paving can be laid in a multitude of ways allowing for unique patterns and shapes to be created, giving homeowners a truly unique surface. Clay or Concrete?

Clay is sourced from the ground and used for a multitude of household items such as plates, pots, cups and planters. Fired in a kiln at very high temperatures they use one material rather than concrete which is combined from many materials such as cement, sand and stone. Clay can however be combined with other materials when you are looking to modify its colour or even texture when mixed with fine gravels.

Clay block paving is incredibly durable and hard wearing, performing well in a wide variety of weather conditions. Being a non-porous material means clay blocks do not require sealant to be protected. A clay patio or driveway will be resistant to almost anything, even chemicals and acids will struggle to wear clay block paving. Thanks to the manufacturing process of these blocks a clay patio or driveway will not fade and will maintain its aesthetic for decades to come, thanks to them being UV light resistant.

Concrete Block Paving

Concrete block paving is made from hard wearing materials such as crushed stone, sand, glass and cement. Once mixed together to achieve your desired colour, the concrete will be set into moulds giving you your desired block shape. Being tightly compressed into moulds allows for the concrete blocks to gain additional durability and strength. Concrete paving is a much more environmentally friendly paving option as some of its materials can be recycled such as glass.

Once fitted concrete blocks can be protected from UV light and fading by using a sealer, this will however need to be renewed every few years. Thanks to being such a versatile material, concrete block paving is much more affordable than its clay counterparts, making it perfect for a smaller budget or covering larger surface areas.
